CARE Zimbabwe started operations in 1992 after signing a Basic Country Agreement with the Government of Zimbabwe to assist the people of Zimbabwe in development, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, in accordance with priorities of the Government. In 2003 CARE Zimbabwe was registered as a welfare organisation under the Welfare Organisations Act (Chapter 93), registration number 15/2003.

CARE Zimbabwe is one of the country offices of CARE International, one of the world's largest private international humanitarian organizations, committed to helping families in poor communities improve their lives and achieve lasting victories over poverty.
